If you live in the Bloor Street neighbourhood at 35 Hayden St, you've probably got a lot of recreational options already thanks to your condo association. But if you're one of the many Torontonians without access to private recreational facilities, you may want to take advantage of the public ones the city of Toronto has set aside for your use. Some of them even host programs that can help you keep fit, show you a fun time, or teach you something new. For an overview of some of the programs you might find, consult this article.
Children's Programs
It is our children that are going to have to deal with the brunt of the environmental crisis, so rather than keeping them at your home at 1 Balmoral Avenue, give them the tools to help them deal by sending them to an environmental program. Programs include developing organic gardens in city parks, exploring Toronto's ravines and wild spaces in a footprint free way, and summer eco camps that combine fitness, education, and art. There are, of course, also standard sporting groups and classes for children, as well as daycare, preschool, and day camp.
Youth Programs
Toronto wants its youth to prepare for their roles as adults. That means getting out of your condo at 18 Yorkville and out into the community to build their leadership skills. Teens can learn to baby-sit, teach swimming, or work with younger children. There are volunteer programs and jobs available and a youth cabinet to help teen voices get heard. Some of the programs for teens include the urban dance competition, phone help line training, lifeguard training, and the youth outreach worker program.
Adult Programs
Adults have programs in leadership too, after all, someone has to train the youth. If you spend all day selling real estate in Toronto, Ontario, though, you might like to unwind by participating in a sports program. There are leagues and lessons in all kinds of sports and hobbies, from popular sports like hockey and baseball to more unusual ones like cricket, golf, or curling.
Senior Programs
Toronto's seniors enjoy discounted rates in recreational programs - as much at 50% off of regular adult programs. Some programs focusing on keeping seniors fit to the best of their abilities instead of always taking an airport taxi to Toronto. Others are social programs to help get seniors out of the house, and still others focus on the arts or sports. Some of the things you might try include badminton, tai chi, line dancing, bingo, walking, woodcarving, and cribbage.
